The Passover

Posted by Pastor Ron On April - 8 - 2009

Gospel of LukeLuke 22:7-30 |So, the traditional Passover meal was already a 1400 year old traditional holiday celebration by the time Jesus hosted the event in Jerusalem just a day prior to His execution. As He led the disciples through the story of Moses and the Exodus from Egypt, Jesus also began to reveal the message of the coming Messiah hidden in plain sight.

Where Poeple Are

Posted by Pastor Ron On March - 8 - 2009

Gospel of LukeLuke 20:27-39 |At first glance, it is easy to miss. From our perspective, 2000 years later, it looks like Jesus actually stops to answer a rather sophomoric question designed to back Him into a corner. In fact, Jesus stops to implore and persuade a group of Jews that aren’t convinced of a coming afterlife, let alone a coming Messiah.

Spoiling for a Fight

Posted by Pastor Ron On March - 1 - 2009

Gospel of LukeLuke 20:1-26 | When Jesus walks into Jerusalem for the Passover celebration, Jesus starts acting like He owns the place. Being, in fact, the Messiah, He does – but the people that run Judaism and the Temple aren’t buying into it. It is unmistakable that Jesus is pushing the buttons of the Jewish leadership and is trying to force their hand. Jesus, it seems, is trying to get himself executed!

Entering Jerusalem with Style

Posted by Pastor Ron On February - 22 - 2009

Gospel of LukeLuke 19:11-44 | Jesus doesn’t just enter Jerusalem for the Passover – He enters with Messianic style. Jesus looks like a king, acts like a king, smells like a king. There is no mistaking the image Jesus is striving to portray. If you didn’t get it from His actions, you can’t miss His disciples singing it at the top of their lungs!

The Offense of Religion

Posted by Pastor Ron On November - 14 - 2008

Gospel of LukeThe problem with all religion is that all of them has a set of rules to follow that get you to heaven. Jesus came to set us free from the rules in Judaism, yet Christians are fond of getting people to conform to our religious morality, rather than introducing people to Jesus.

Not-So-Good Samaritan

Posted by Pastor Ron On October - 19 - 2008

Luke 10:25-37 | This has got to be a story that contains the best known parable of Jesus’ teaching. The Good Samaritan has become the synonymous with the paragon of ethics and honor. Even though the story is familiar , perhaps, what you don’t know about that story will surprise you.

Sending 72

Posted by Pastor Ron On October - 12 - 2008

Luke 10:1-24: As Jesus drops down from His home region of Galilee to the big stage of Judea (where Jerusalem was located), He needed an advance team in every town, village and hamlet to make preparations. So, Jesus sends down 72 of His Galilean disciples to encourage, heal and recruit a Judean army of followers.

What’s the Point?

Posted by Pastor Ron On October - 5 - 2008

Gospel of LukeSo, these guys that sign on to follow Jesus around and learn from His teachings. It seems like a really fun time. You know, Jesus goes to this place and heals all kinds of poeple; Jesus goes to that place and yells at the Jewish elite…. It must have been exciting. Now, I don’t know the individual motivation of the disciples, but Jesus really does have an agenda to this whole relationship.
