Notice that today is Fat Tuesday? Ever wonder why a Tuesday became the party day it is? In many areas of the world it is traditional to party down before it all ends Wednesday morning!
Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. We will observe this somber day by meeting Wednesday morning for a short half-hour service of prayer and meditation.
The ashes of Ash Wednesday are from the palm branches from last year’s Palm Sunday celebration. We take they symbol of our joy and grind them up. Many will take these ashes on their forehead during the service. The ashes are taken as a sign of submission to a 40 day fast. Traditionally, the ashes remind us that one day our bodies will no longer belong to us and return to the earth. It is a reminder to always be prepared for eternity.
Please plan on joining us for this somber morning observance of Ash Wednesday.
