We believe that coming to a worship service on the weekends is a good start to being involved in community. The corporate worship experience, sound Biblical teaching and good coffee are essential in establishing a strong connection to God, but that is only half the journey.
Strong Christian development also needs a strong bond with other Christian believers who are on the same journey. It is not just beneficial, but essential, that we get to know a wide variety of people in the church, find people you can count on and learn to trust a few and allow them to speak into your life. Without this, we fail to invest in relationships that sustain us in the good times and the bad. We need these opportunities to put Biblical truths into practice.
We believe in our Community Groups. We are continually seeking to create community though all sorts of means as people spend time together. Some groups are studying the Bible. Some are reading though books on living out the Christ-like life. Others are playing softball together.
You see, we don’t care why people get together and we want to see a larger percentage of our community involved. That is why we are making changes to the way we develop our Community Groups. It is our hope that everyone finds a place in some kind of small group within the fellowship of the East Ave Community Church.
Here is what to expect in for the fall:
Take a a month off: Coinciding with the start of the public schools, all small groups will take a month off. During those weeks, we will publish a list of the Community Group offerings for the fall. This list will include who is leading the group, which book, study or activity is involved, meeting time, day of the week and even what days will be skipped (holidays, vacations and the like).
Run for 12 weeks: Rather than open ended schedules, these groups will be somewhere around 12 weeks long – depending upon scheduling and length of curriculum, etc. At the end of 12 weeks, your commitment to the group ends. For the fall, all groups will start in the last half of September and end in in early December.
Take another month off for sign-ups: You can sign up with the same leader to study something different or find another group all together. For example, in the winter you may want to be a part of a couples community group and in the spring you may want to play softball.
We don’t care what kind of group you join. We just want you to be a part of something that meets weekly outside of weekend worship services! Yes, it is that important.
