1st Samuel Chapters 1&2 | Samuel is born to a special purpose. His childless mother prayed before God for a son – even promising to give him as a gift to the temple is God would bless her this way. She did become pregnant and followed through by dropping Samuel off at the temple when he was three or four years of age. These two chapters are filled with the cultural background of tithes and offerings in Israel in the time before the kings.
